I’m Kae, a Nigerian wedding planner based in New Jersey who plans weddings for couples all over the U.S. Tayo and Leke’s wedding will always hold a special place in my heart, not just because of how beautiful it was, but because it happened during one of the most unpredictable times in wedding history.
Planning a Wedding During the Pandemic
This wedding was scheduled for December 2020 with 150 guests, but as COVID-19 restrictions evolved, that number steadily dropped.
By September, travel limitations had already reduced the guest list to 50. Then, in December, a new state order banned social gatherings of more than 25 people, though religious ceremonies like weddings were exempt. That meant the church ceremony could include more guests, but the reception afterward had to be limited.
It was a confusing time for everyone, but we were determined to help the couple celebrate safely and joyfully.
Adapting and Replanning
Rather than panic, our team worked closely with the couple to come up with a safe, creative solution. Together, we decided on the following plan:
The bride and groom would carefully narrow their guest list to their top 25 guests, a heartbreaking but necessary step.
Guests who could no longer attend the reception would still be part of the church ceremony. We coordinated with the caterer to prepare packaged meals for them to take home after the service.
Then, just days before the wedding, the Governor updated the restrictions again, this time limiting social gatherings to 10 people.
At that point, we worked with The German Club Manor team to design a rotation plan. Guests would come in small, safe groups of 10 at a time to celebrate, take photos, and enjoy dinner. The venue was incredibly supportive, helping us ensure that sanitizing, spacing, and safety protocols were followed without losing the joy of the day.
"My husband and I booked events by Kae to plan our wedding in Virginia last year. she went above and beyond to make it a success. I am forever grateful, for the support she provided in ensuring that everything went as planned. She helped us in getting good and affordable vendors and she worked effectively to make sure that all our goals were met. She is super sweet and calm and knows how well to manage pressure that might arise on the day of the event. I highly recommend Event by Kae!" (Google Review)

The Wedding Day
When the wedding day arrived, it was clear that love would not be stopped by a pandemic. The ceremony was heartfelt and spiritual, filled with laughter, prayers, and emotion. Even with restrictions, Tayo and Leke’s loved ones found meaningful ways to share in their joy.
Later in the evening, the couple changed into their stunning traditional Nigerian attire, complete with coral beads, rich fabrics, and bright colors that reflected their Yoruba heritage. It was a moment of pride, love, and celebration that no one in attendance will ever forget.
Despite every challenge, Tayo and Leke’s wedding turned out beautifully, proof that with flexibility, teamwork, and love, anything is possible.
